Project: Two Storey Addition

This 2 storey addition in St. Paul stayed true to the original character of the 1890's home.

My name is Mike Robertson and I am a licensed contractor and carpenter in St. Paul, MN.

I love bringing old houses back to life and up to date, respecting the character of the house while making it beautiful and functional for the 21st century.

I do it with high quality workmanship and a focus on the details: matching original moulding patterns, making sure a new kitchen is set up properly for the primary cook (are you left handed?), and salvaging and reusing materials where possible to reduce environmental impact.

Your old house deserves respect, and so do you. I pride myself on developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with my clients through clear, professional communication at every stage of the project.

I offer free consultations on jobs of all sizes. Please contact me at (612) 369-0975 or email mrobertson@usinternet.com if you would like to discuss your project.

Following are some examples of my work. Click on any photo to enlarge it.

PROJECT: Kitchen Remodel

Before

A cramped, dated kitchen before remodelling

After

Kitchen after remodel, featuring Shaker style cherry cabinets, new oak flooring, marble countertops. I did all the carpentry (rough and finish), installed the cabinets, and managed all subcontractors.

PROJECT: Bathroom remodel

Before

A small, poorly designed bathroom in a "HUD" house...

...gets gutted (along with most of the rest of the house)...

...and becomes a charming Victorian-style bath.

I modified this antique washstand to accomodate the basin sink.
PROJECT: Bedroom converted to office

The doorway on the right led to a dark, narrow first floor bedroom.

I widened the opening to connect the space to the dining room.

Structural header supports the wider opening.
(Note old beadboard ceiling unconvered during demolition.)

Beadboard ceiling and walls restored.

Baseboard trim was milled to match the rest of the house.

I built this custom bookcase to blend with the age and style of the house.

Crown molding ties the bookcases together with the rest of the room.
